What is a Men’s Shed?

A Men’s Shed is a group of men who get together in their community to develop new skills, discover new interests, and make new friends. But it’s so much more than that. For many men, aging and retirement can lead to loneliness and a loss of purpose; and that’s where Men’s Sheds come in. Symbolic of that backyard workshop where men share stories and tinker with woodworking or electronics, a Men’s Shed is grounded in the idea that men communicate more effectively when they’re “shoulder to shoulder” ..

There are over 130 Men's Sheds in Canada and over 3,300 worldwide.

The Vancouver West End Men's Shed is relatively new. Our workshop received funding and began to create a shop in 2024. Since this time we have accumulated tools and constructed partitions, storage, and workbenches. We have held two sessions where seniors assembled and finished a SongStick (a three stringed instrument). Our workspace is available every day. We are developing new projects. There is no scheduled shop activity time at present. As a community it is necessary that each member contribute time, knowledge and effort to grow our Men's Shed.
