My daughter and her husband needed a place to store their shoes near their apartment entry door. Since it was a small space and highly visible, they had fairly specific requirements for the dimensions. She and I decided to make a project out of it, and have some fun too.
Together we took measurements and drew up a design. We bought a sheet of 3/8 inch plywood. We used less than half and donated the rest to the Shed. The rest of the materials we already had or were scraps at the shed. We completed the project in about 5 visits. My daughter got to learn a few power tools and techniques and we had an enjoyable time working together.
We cut wood scraps to support the shelves and used screws, nails, and glue to attach them. I thought metal brackets would be difficult to attach because the plywood was so thin. We used iron-on edge laminate on the exposed plywood edges.
We primed and painted it at home, and installed it with screws and drywall anchors, and it looks and works great! We're grateful to the Vancouver West End Men's Shed for the opportunity to work on this project together.
